Hardware failure

The server that's running the MobMap website (among others) suffered from a hardware failure 6 hours ago. The harddisk where the main MySQL database files were stored just stopped working. Fortunately that harddisk decided to break down right half an hour after a regular backup snapshot was taken, so the amount of data loss is minimal.

I restored the backup and brought the server back online, everything should be working smoothly again. But if you tried to download a database update during the last 6 hours you might have gotten a corrupt version (if you were able to get anything at all), so I suggest you to run that download again now.

    Hello,
I am not sure but it seems to me that the updating of youre server ist not working.
I am still seeing every day the same amount of quest, items, npc,... Before the last update you could watch how the database is growing almost every day. I am uploading everyday my new gatherd data.

Actually...you're right, at least for the german database. Shit. Some stupid typo caused the parser to almost completely ignore new data for the database during the last days. Fixed that now, thanks for the report.

Do you think you will ever implement a system that will automatically cross out quests that have been finished (similar to Quest History)?

It has been broken again....no update since 1 week

Nope, not broken. Just checked it, everything's working fine. Each day several hundred new mob positions are added and near to a million loot procedures. It's just that these things aren't reflected in those 4 numbers you can directly see on the website, because they relate to already-known mobs.

The number of different mobs and quests is finite, and MobMap does probably know around 90% of them now (just a rough estimation, might be some more or less). The rules of statistics say that the time that's necessary to get those last missing 10% will be way higher than the time that was required for the first 90%, because the growth rate approaches zero while the database grows towards 100%. That's the explanation why you don't see many changes in those numbers - wait for the next content patch that brings new quests and mobs and you'll see them jump again ;-) But as I said, even though those numbers don't grow rapidly, the database is still growing, just into another dimension (like more positions for already-known mobs or more loot data). That's why it's important that you keep uploading your collected data (big thanks for doing that btw!).

I just have to say that this is the best addon ever made for WOW. Please keep up the great work you have been doing on this addon.

I do have one suggestion. Would it be possible for you to give us the option of having it automatically download the latest database and upload our data, then launch WOW. If this could all be done with a single click on a shortcut or somthing that would be awesome :-)
