A new star on the WoW database heaven...

...or: what I have spent my time on during the last three months.

Life is unfair. That's a fact, period!

The english-speaking user base of WoW has a great online database with a really intuitive user interface and quite some functionality - I'm referring to Wowhead, my personal favourite of all english databases. The german users however don't have anything that comes near Wowhead's flexibility. We do have Blasc and a few more less-known databases, but they're pretty crappy compared to Wowhead, at least in my opinion as a rather sophisticated web user.

But that's going to change...cause I proudly present...*drumroll*

SpeedyDragon

SpeedyDragon is the newest, most sophisticated german WoW online database that combines a user interface similar to Wowhead with even more flexibility and functionality! Give it a try - it's the perfect online complement to the MobMap ingame addon.

More about SpeedyDragon on the new SpeedyDragon devblog - or on the site itself, of course (Sorry to all you english MobMap users, that blog is written in german, because it's about a german-only website). This will be the only entry solely about SpeedyDragon on the MobMap devblog, as this is the place for MobMap-related news.

Why not make the site support english and german, that way we can both benefit :-)

  2. Slarti says:

Creating a fully multilingual WoW web database involves pretty much more work than limiting it to one language (which is the reason by the way that no other database has really done this yet, too), because there's quite some language-dependent stuff besides the user interface templates in there. And since the english-speaking user base already has Wowhead, I decided to focus on the german market first, which does not have any web database system that could seriously compete with Wowhead in terms of features and elegance. So this decision is also based partly on simple marketing-technical thoughts.

But no one knows what the future brings...maybe SpeedyDragon will be localized in english someday. But definitely not now or in the near future.
