MobMapUpdater v1.62

There's a new version of the updater program online for automatic download.

This version fixes a startup problem that could occur on certain systems in automatic upload mode when the uploader was started with Windows. Besides that, it introduces the ability to download the MobMap databases from multiple mirrors. Though you won't see any part of this in the software itself (the mirror selection is handled automatically and fully transparent to the user), it allows me to spread the download load and traffic over multiple servers.

An immediate result of this new system and the addition of another download source is a decrease of the automatic database update interval from 14 to 7 days. So if you're running the MobMapUpdater in automatic mode you'll be able to automatically get a database update if your installed database is older than seven days now.

Oh, and I included a little bit of subtle advertising for SpeedyDragon that's being shown if the client is running on a german computer. But don't worry, it's just a little clickable graphic in an unused edge of the Updater's window, nothing more.

[edit] A server side error has prevented the new version of the Updater from uploading data in a correct way. This has been fixed, sorry for the inconvenience.

Is there a way you can make it a option when to update. I like to update mine everyday. But if it is a bandwidth problem i understand.

  2. Slarti says:

You can always do a manual update, there's no limit to the number of manual updates.

It's just that if there was an option to automatically update once a day, thousands of people would just mindlessly enable it, no matter if they really need it or not - just because it's there and because it doesn't cost them any money. This would result in a significant amount of bandwidth spent on people who probably wouldn't even notice a difference between an update every seven days and an update every day, because an update every 7 days is good enough to keep the database updated most of the time - usually the database does grow rather slowly while Blizzard doesn't add any new content. If Blizzard adds new content in a big patch - which results in a serious growth of the database over a short amount of time - there's still the option to manually update at any time to get the new content as soon as possible.

Unable to update the Mobmap database using the updater. It crashes after it tries to update datatbase 1. Mobmap updater also tells me that it will not be possible to upload collected data because no accounts have been found in my WoW installation. What can I do to fix these problems?

  4. Slarti says:

First check if the path to WoW is correctly stored in the windows registry. Use regedit to navigate to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft and there should be a value called "InstallPath" that should contains the path to wow.

  5. Synnastyr says:

Points right to WoW on my F Drive. Another thing is that the updater tells me that the addon is not found so I manually downloaded and installed it. Thought it was installed but that was not the case when I looked in my addons folder.

So the registry points to where it should and I now have the addon in the addon folder and have updated the databases but it is still telling me that no accounts are found. What did I miss or mess up?

  6. Synnastyr says:

In case this info is also needed the systray icon is also telling me that it can not find an active Mobmap installation so could not automatically upload any data

  7. Synnastyr says:

Ok everything seems to have resolved itself. Thank you for the help =]

  8. Slarti says:

Ah, you probably just had to run WoW once with the addon enabled to create the saved variables file. Good to hear it's working now.

  9. cecil says:

I just updated to the newest version and its not working at all for me. I click the button for and nothing happens and the same with typing /mobmap show

  10. cecil says:

I tried using the updater first...then I deleted all the mobmap folders and reinstalled the new version...tried disabling all other mods...Doesn't work at all now

  11. Forbidden says:

Slarti, I was just curious if you have ever though about porting your Installer and Updater to Mac. I understand that Mac and PC are two totally different systems but it was just a thought. Either way, you've done some awesome work on the MobMap plugin itself and could never thank you enough!

  12. Starlin says:

Thanks for the mod! I love Mobmap!

  13. Jevidiah says:

Forgive the intrusion, Where do I go to report bugs?

I have a bug that every time I click on the [?] for a quest objective in a quest that is being watched, it doesn't bring up the database and I get the error 'I'm sorry, but I could not find this quest in the MobMap quest database.'. It works fine if I click on the [?] for the quest, but not for the quest objectives... what gives?

  14. Keltoi says:

First: Thank you for making such a great mod!

Simular to Jevidiah's question, but then how to report enhancement requests.

Enhancement Idea: When using the Merchants tab, where you can list the merchants by name, subtitle or Zone. It would be nice if you could indicate to only show Horde or Alliance accessible merchants (as in Horde + Neutral vendors or Alliance + Neutral vendors). Or if that is not possible, maybe to indicate their status when you select them.

  15. Keltoi says:

    More enhancement idea's:

Add a DB to show what item disenchants into.

    Hi

I was unable to upload the collected data by using the updater. After a few seconds I got a message that an error has occurred and I have to try it later. What can I do to fix these problem?

  17. Slarti says:

If this problem does persist, your collected data probably has been damaged. This can happen in some cases and it's the reason why I added a "delete collected data" button to the newest MobMapUpdater version. You can delete your data with this button immediately and have a fresh start.

  18. camper says:

    Hi!

When I was trying to upload my collected data today, the follow error occured: http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6066/fehler1tm9.png
Then I tried to update Mobmap using the selfupdate.exe when this error occured: http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/4318/fehler2km0.png
Reinstalling or deleting the collected data didn't solved the problem either. Can anyone help?

  19. Slarti says:

I'm currently trying to figure out what is causing the first error (the second one is already fixed, that one was caused by a server-side misconfiguration in the new selfupdate mechanism that came with the last patch). Could you please send me the file "debugout.txt" from your MobMapUpdater directory by mail to slartie@gmx.net? It's important that you've just tried to upload your data before you send me the file in order to ensure that it contains the interesting log entries from the crash.

  20. camper says:

Solved the problem by my self by reinstalling World of Warcraft. Probably the cachedata were corrupted. Send you the debugout.txt

    Thanks for helping!

  21. Shaylar says:

    Hi
