MobMap v1.58

This is the first MobMap version with a "removed" remark in the changelog. I removed the dot scaling options - they are of no use anymore, since the visual appearance of the MobMap dots on the world map has been improved. Several people complained that the solid white dots weren't exactly a perfect solution. That's why the dots are now surrounded with a black border to make them easily distinguishable from the background, no matter if it's dark or bright white. And because they are bigger now, the (automatic) scaling is no longer needed.

The full changelog of v1.58:
- fixed: a few layer problems and logical errors with the new reagent quicksearch buttons
- fixed: a slight error in the position data collection code
- changed: The MobMap dots on the world map have been reworked. They are bigger now and have a black border to make it easier to distinguish them from the map
- removed: The dot scaling options have been removed, since the new dots are bigger than the old ones in any case.

Love your mod, keep it up bud

I have translated MobMap v1.58 to Spanish included databases. How can I send it to make another official language into MobMap?

    Best regards.

  3. Slarti says:

Unfortunately there's a lot more necessary to have another officially supported language. The whole backend system would have to be extended to be able to automatically build updated databases. There's been a similar issue with some chinese players who have translated the addon and a database to chinese language.

The thing is: I won't add full support for any other language, at least not right now, since I don't have the time for doing it right and since I don't intend to support every single language. But I also don't stop people who'd like to translate the addon itself and a database copy to another language, so if you've done just that, you're free to offer the alternate version yourself to interested people, as long as you do that on a fair basis.

  4. Angelique Labelle says:

Firstly, I love the mod. Thank you.

I am having some difficulty using it in some cases. Since I'm not very technically oriented, I'll just give todays' example: I have a quest that requires me to go to "Molten Core" for a particular drop. I have never been to, or heard of before, or noticed on any zone map, "Molten Core." So I pulled it up in MobMap (YAY! It's there!)

Unfortunately, what is there is a map of the dungeon itself, not a zone map showing Molten Core as a prominent dot. I have tried right-clicking the dungeon map to "zoom out" to the Zone, but nothing happens.

I have clicked the question marks on the drops in the quest log, and up comes a list showing "Molten Core" as the location, in gold, but clicking that also just brings up the dungeon map.

My main is a level 61 so I'm not exactly a WoW noob, although I am a MobMap noob. So I must be doing something wrong- surely something as basic as "what zone is (xx) in?" is a functionality of MobMap that I just have not figured out yet how to use. Where can I find out how to do this in mobMap?

    Angie

  5. Slarti says:

In case of instances (which Molten Core obviously is), MobMap does not have any information of where the entrance point(s) are located in the world. At least not at the moment. However, it is able to tell you if a mob or a pickup or something is located in an instance by showing you the zone name in the zone list. But inside instances, it doesn't have any position information, neither of drops nor of mobs. This is because unfortunately it's technically impossible to determine a position inside an instance. You should actually not even be able to pull up a map of the dungeon, since the Blizzard interface doesn't contain instance maps, but I assume you're using an addon like Cartographer for this that adds its own instance maps.

So, the bottom line is: MobMap can tell you that something is located inside which instance, but it can't show you any exact locations.

  6. Angelique Labelle says:

OK, thank you. At least I know I'm not doing anything wrong to cause the location of an instance not to show up or be available.

Have you given any thought to adding a comprehensive database of named POI, including but not limited to instances, showing what zone each is in? Non-Instance examples would include Forest Song (Ashenvale), Ironwood (Felwood) etc.

This would be very helpful because quests frequently tell you to go to "x" without giving any clue as to where "x" is in the world.

If you are not inclined to build this functionality into MobMap, are you aware of any other addon that can provide this crucial info?

Thanks again for a great addon.

    Angie

  7. Slarti says:

I might consider adding something like that to instance zones, just to be able to "do" something whenever the user clicks on an instance zone. But definitely not as a general purpose POI database, at least not right now, since that would amount to quite some manual work to build up such a database and maintain it as new content is released (that has been done by others already anyway, I think the cartographer package includes some POI database...at least I think it was Cartographer, maybe it was a different map addon, I'm not sure, but I've definitely seen something like that some time ago.).

  8. Angelique Labelle says:

    PS:

    >>instances (which Molten Core obviously is)

This is kind of my point- from my viewpoint, the fact that Molten Core is an instance is not at all obvious- it could just as easily be a Horde outpost in Un'Goro or a non-instance cave in Burning Steppes, both of which are "volcanic" in nature.

It took me 3 days of continuous asking on all channels in-game to find out that it is apparently somehow connected to Black Rock (Zone unknown), although opinions vary on whether it is connected to Black Rock Depths or Black Rock Spire. Very confusing, and I still do not know how to get to Molten Core. Even people who have been there are not sure where it is or exactly how to get there, several because they were summoned there and did not actually have to travel there.

Furthermore, looking up the quest on thottbot (or MobMap!!) reveals ZERO clues as to how to actually get to Molten Core- the assumption being that "everybody already knows that," which is very, very erroneous.

    Thanks again-

  9. Slarti says:

Yeah, I can see the problem. That's just the thing that emerges over time...in Vanilla WoW, everyone who had any quests to do in Molten Core knew where Molten Core is (Blackrock is good btw ;-) there's an entrance into it hidden in the blackrock depths instance and a possible shortcut which you can open up by doing an attunement quest in blackrock depths), because it was the first 40-man raiding instance and you can't do anything there without a raid group. So the people who wanted to go there could just ask their raid group how to get in.

Now, as time went on and new players joined the fun, many ppl don't even know that molten core is one of the old raid instances, so I can see that there's a chance of someone wondering where that strange "Molten Core" is that they have to go to for a quest. I might consider adding a flag to zones that tells which of those are instances and where the entrance is roughly located.

  10. Angelique Labelle says:

    >>This is because unfortunately it's technically impossible to determine a position inside an instance.

The only addons I'm using are MobMap, Koordinator and Auctioneer. Interestingly, Koordinator displays xx,yy coordinates all the time, even in instances. So somehow, it is able to access the xx,yy coordinates in the game even in instances... or maybe it's reflecting the Zone coordinates... which "overlay" every instance- you can see this when you die in an instance and have to make your way back to your corpse- the little gravestone marker representing your corpse is visible on the Zone map before you re-enter the instance, so your exact position within an instance has to have some corresponding xx,yy position in the Zone.

    >>You should actually not even be able to pull up a map of the dungeon, since the Blizzard interface doesn't contain instance maps, but I assume you're using an addon like Cartographer for this that adds its own instance maps.

Again, Mobmap and Koordinator are the only map-related addons I'm using. When instance maps come up, they show Boss locations as skull symbols- mousing over them reveals the name of the Boss. I suspect these instance maps are embedded in Koordinator, since that is the only mapping addon other than MobMap that I have. I could go check one of these maps for the attribution, but I can't log on yet today, all servers are still down atm.

    >>[regarding my suggestion for a POI database in MobMap] I might consider adding something like that to instance zones, just to be able to "do" something whenever the user clicks on an instance zone. But definitely not as a general purpose POI database, at least not right now, since that would amount to quite some manual work to build up such a database and maintain it as new content is released

Could this not be handled as "database 14" in the updating/uploading/downloading process with little or no initial hand-entry of data? Every time a player "dinged a border" or "discovered" any named POI or even travelled to a previously-discovered named location (name of current location is always reflected in the minimap caption bar), the name and containing Zone could be added to the player's local db, then uploaded to build the "master" database, then subsequently that "master db" could be downloaded as part of the updating process. In other words, the master db would start out empty and be quickly populated by players, automatically as part of the upload process. Even if exact locations could not be accommodated (some "named POI" are extensive and have no pinpoint location) at least the containing Zone could be stored, uploaded and then downloaded by all. I guess my point is that just knowing what Zone a particular POI was in would be a HUGE help. That way, when a user clicks (or enters in the search window) a "known" POI name, the Zone Map for the containing Zone, or at least a textual reference to the containing Zone, would pop up, leaving it up to the user to actually locate the POI within the Zone.

    I'll shut up now :-P

Thanks again for a great addon.

    Slarti,
Thank you very much, I understand.

Only I have a little problem with translation:

Hwo to add quests objetives in a simple mode?, now they are encoded with huffman tree.

    Best regards.
    Jorge V. Gutierrez

  12. Slarti says:

You can just put plain text in there, that should work fine since it's being automatically detected if it's plain text or compressed data (never really tested that though...)

  13. pMingo says:

    Hi Jorge

I'm very interested on a Spanish version of MobMap. Is there a way to download the translation?

  14. Ashee says:

Since the .57 update, I haven't been able to see the white squares supposed to represent mobs or NPC's whose names I have seached for using the searh function.

There are NO indicators of where the mobs raoms, where the NPC's are located or anything anymore.

    What is wrong with it?

I have the latest version of Cartographer and that works like a charm. But I really WOULD like to NOT have to fart around looking for Sir Bangalot or the Helcaller Wenches in hellfire for hours, if you know what I mean. Can you please fix that?

  15. Slarti says:

Actually the white squares have been surrounded with black borders, so they should be even more clearly visible now. Could you please make sure that the problem is not caused by inter-addon incompatibilities (try disabling all addons besides MobMap and check if the error persists), and if this doesn't change anything, please tell me the name of one of the mobs that isn't displayed. If this fixes the situation, please tell me which addons you're using.

  16. Kindara says:

Did you update your MobMap databasefiles since .57? If not, that could be your problem.

  17. Doryn says:

Having the same problem since 2.3 came out. Isolated the problem with cartographer, seems that cartographer is somehow messing with the map overlay, the dots don't appear at all. I got the latest revisions of both addons. Any work arounds?

  18. Anonymous says:

    Hey Slarti.

Already tried that and nothing changes.
Disabled all other addons. renamed my addons folder, deleted WTF, AddOns and Cache and repaired the game. Installed MobMap, updated to latest version - no changes. I STILL cannot see ANY dots ANYwhere to represent the mobs/NPC's I need to find. Mind you, this is with a clean installation of the game (Yes, I reinstalled the game too).

Could you help me figure out how to get it to work? You can always find me on Shadowsong, under the name Ashee, Cloudine or Silverlocks.

    Thanks mate :).

  19. Slarti says:

I'm really trying to figure out what might be causing these problems, but I'm totally stuck. Tried to deactivate all addons besides MobMap - everything all right. Tried to use the newest Cartographer version with MobMap (which I'm doing all day anyway since I play with Cartographer) - everything all right. I even tried to switch from German to English client language - still everything was working perfectly.

I'd be interested if someone could answer the following question (just to at least get an idea of the direction I have to search in): does MobMap v1.57 (the previous version) work right now for any one of you who's having problems with the latest version? Or the version before, v1.56?

  20. Alex says:

    Hi there,

i had the issue with the invisible MobMap marks yesterday when i played with the FRAME STRATA setting of Cartographer. When set this to 'automatic' MobMap's indicators show up correctly. When changing it to 'background' for instance the indicators were hidden.

Slarti, it seems that the MobMap indicators' strata level is not set up relative to the Cartographer/Worldmap window. Could that be the cause?

I hope this helps. Keep up the great work with this fantastic addon!

    Best regards
    Alex

  21. Doryn says:

I'm not sure what happened, I reinstalled cartographer and the dots finally appeared. only thing I did was to edit the TOC in cartographer, it was still version 20200

  22. Mark says:

Looks like I have some serious problem with the addon, it was working fine until I used WoW UI Updater, but now it doesnt even work when I disable all the other addons...:(

When I load the game I get this:

    http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/7097/sighoh9.jpg

I downloaded the autoupdater and updated it to 1.58 with no result.
Then I deleted all mobmap directories, all mobmap files inside account dir and the game cache (talk about desperate moves...) with no result.
I tried disabling all the other addons...and again...no result... :(

The Auto-Updater tells me that "No accounts have been found in your WoW installation", but I'm not sure this is related in some way...

    Any Ideas?

  23. Mark says:

    Nevermind, I fixed it.

Its a Vista issue (they would call it a feature probably...)

Vista will not allow UI Updater to update files inside Program Files directory, so the updates ends up in c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Virtualstore\Program Files\World Of Warcraft

And the game use those instead of the ones in the main directory, so I probably downgraded the addon with UI Updater and upgraded it only in the main directory...now I copied main Interface directory in the VirtualStore one and everything is fine :)

A crappy explaination, I know...but my english isnt that good... :)

  24. Blazeflack says:

I have actually requested this before but I think you never saw it at ui.worldofwar.net. I am using PartyQuests from the Cosmos distro and the little question marks isn't showing inside the questlog. Have to check them and put them on the screen in order for me to search the mobmap database for that quest.

Would it be possible to add compatibility to PartyQuests please?

    Thanks

  25. MarkT says:

Please update the version you link from http://www.mobmap.de/addon.php to 1.58 -- I use WUU to update MobMap, and I'll end up with a downgrade to 1.57. :-)

Thanks in advance and thanks for such a great addon!

  26. Huntncrush says:

Slarti, I love your mod but there's a few recent issues. One of them is that on my Alternate character now level 67 I tried picking up the wanted quest: Felling An Ancient Tree and your mod was having issues with the accept quest button, I had to disable Mobmap so I know it's not my Quest Leveler addon. I do plan to reactivate my Mobmap and continue with it's use but I just wanted to let you know it needs a patch update.

  27. Slarti says:

Make sure that you're using the newest version of MobMap. There was a bug in the quest acceptation two versions ago, but it was already fixed.

  28. mike dew says:

anyway i can get an addon that works for mac?

  29. John P says:

when i try to do an update it opens, then a box comes up that says "connection closed gracefully"
when i activate the selfupdate.exe i get a microsoft error.

have deleted everthing, but the updater folder won't delete says another user or program is using it.

  30. MementoMori says:

Contrary to other people, i can get my dots to show, but not mobmap itself. I can click on the mobmap quicksearches in the questlog and everything works fine. (provided its a mob i search for, not a questitem, cause then it just thinks for a second and then nothing happens)

Sometimes i think it opens the main window, cause my keybord input goes somewhere, but i can't see where, so can i somewhere change at what position the mobmap is opened? it might have ended up offscreen or something. (I reinstalled the mod and reset my WTF folder, but it didnt help)

I can also get the mobmap questinfo thingy to show, so everything works except i cant get the mainwindow up.

  31. Jerry Epps says:

I recently had to reinstall windows, and all my WoW files, when i got to the Acct info, i skipped it, because i didnt need to start a new account. Now, MobMap wont install properly. Throws a error saying, no account found, and that it will not be able to update the database. Is there a way to fix this?

  32. Marquee says:

    Hi,

    I use Vista x32 and MobMapUpdater don't work :(

I can see it for 0,02 sec in the taskmanager but.. nothing happend :(

    The selfupdate works fine...

For testing, I disabled KIS 7, but don't work.

    Can you help me?

    Thanks and greetings

Does MobMap show locations for the objective types "object" and "event" (for quest objectives like "destroy that...") or only mob locations?

  35. ataraxia says:

I just updated MobMap, now every time I go to do something with the updater, I get a red X popup box saying "Connection closed gracefully" and all is dim. Then I have to exit MobMap Updater and go in and do something. Can only do one thing at a time once it is pulled up it seems, and sometimes I get it on the first thing I try to do.

Other than that, please accept my long-overdue for making what is arguably the very best mod for WoW... ever! :) Cheers!

  36. Sullytao says:

Recently I got a new pc that runs on Vista and tried installing mobmap again but ran into some problems. When I tried installing the autoupdater It said not compatible with my version of Windows, and when I download the manual database and try and unzip it I get the message "The archieve is either in unknown format or is damaged."
Is there something I'm doing wrong or is it just a general bug?

  37. Zidomo says:

Fabulous mod. But two large issues with the new v1.58.

    1) Am very (very) disappointed with the removal of the dot scaling options. If you have a mob without a wide range of seen points (as in one or two dots only), the dots as they are now are incredibly difficult to see on a map already populated with other notes (such as when you are using Cartographer and looking at Shattrath). Heck, on a map with no other notes but a variety of topographical features, they are still really hard to see.

About the only time the new 1.58 map dots could be considered an adequate substitute for dots as they were in earlier versions is when a mob covers a very large range. As in a 1 cm square range (or more) of dots.

Any fewer dots and the feature becomes next to useless now. Especially as you can't get the coordinates of a mob until you hunt down and find the dot(s).

A real feature regression. Hope the option for scalable dots is put back in a future version soon.

    2) Error doing a quest search in the MobMap window (recorded with the BugSack/BugGrabber mod): "MobMap-MobMap v1.58\\MobMap_quests.lua:414: attempt to call global 'MobMap_ShowMultipleMobs' (a nil value)\n:\"*:OnClick\":1: in function ".

Feature request: Since the last major patch zone maps can now be enabled outside the BG's. Any chance for adding a coordinates overlay on that? It would be nice since you won't have to lose visibility while running and checking where your destination is at, even if it is across the zone not covered by the minimap. Thanks

  40. Per von Schweden says:

Ok, I REALLY like this mod, but I don't like that I can't change the mob-dots.. for instance today when I searched for "Atal'ai Exile" I couldn't find the dot, I looked for ages and finally tabbed out to thottbot, then, when I knew where to look for it, I found it, but it was Sooo tiny.. Yes, I have 1.58.

  41. Erika says:

Download Atlas. It has all the instance maps. Then for those who want to get to mc go to http://www.wowwiki.com/Quest:Attunement_to_the_Core

Also is there a way to change the color of the squares?

  42. pascal says:

Sometimes the cursor on the world map is getting invisible behind all those dots. Maybe you can put it in front???

  43. Jens says:

I love this mod, i recently installed on my notebook, but I'm having issues w/ using it. I've installed the database manually, and the addons are in the correct folder. On my addon list in wow, it is also checked off, but the icon on my minimap does not show up, as well as any question marks next to avail. quests. I've tried using /mopmap show but nothing works. I checked under the gathering button and still no "M" icon. What am i doing wrong?

  44. fb says:

    Hey there,

don't know if you have sorted out where the problem with the invisible white squares is located, but maybe I can bring you a step further:

I figured out that the squares can be made visible by changing the location of the MobMap-Button at the worldmap (using the different options MobMap provides). I have to do so once a session.

I'm using Cartographer too and the German version of MobMap and WoW.

Hope this helps and hope my English is good enough ;).

  45. MysticalOS says:

I'm unable to upload mobmap data what so ever. it always tells me it's incomplete, and i checked, it is, the field cuts it off at about one 10th, apparently i am supposed to submit data more than once every 2-3 months. Question is, how do i divide the data into multiple submissions? there is no clear line breaking system in the data to show where one entry ends and another begins.

  46. Slarti says:

Are you talking about the manual upload procedure or using the MobMapUpdater?

What "field" exactly does cut off the data?

  47. MysticalOS says:

manually uploading through online submit form, always says data is incorrect. when i copy and paste the text into the textbox. But i did notice when i paste it, not all of it will paste, it only lets me paste a small portion of it.

  48. Slarti says:

That's a problem with your browser apparently. Some browsers might put an arbitrary limitation on the amount of text that can be pasted into a textbox. This is bad behavior (since the HTML code of the upload website tells the browser to prepare for large amounts of text, so the browser knows about that in advance and should allow it), so you might try to use a different browser to upload the data.

  49. Lichthammer says:

Hi! I want to test your highly recommended MobMap Addon and want to manually install the Mobmap database (I play on a Mac and can't use the MobMapInstaller). Do I have to overwrite the ".../MobMap158/MobMap" folder with the database "MobMap" folder (which would delete its original contents) or add the contents of the database "MobMap" folder to the ".../MobMap158/MobMap" folder or is there another way?

    Best regards,

    Lichthammer, EU Realm Malygos

  50. Slarti says:

You'd have to add the contents to the stuff that is already in there! The database archives only contain the data files, while the MobMap addon archive does contain only the MobMap addon files, but they both have to be present in the MobMap addon directory to work.

  51. Jan says:

"Vista will not allow UI Updater to update files inside Program Files directory, so the updates ends up in c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Virtualstore\Program Files\World Of Warcraft"

  52. Kanuut says:

First I wish to thank you for this wonderful addon. A must have for everyone!

But I have on feature request:
There is this nice questionmark symbol on the questlog-screen which opens the questdetails gathered by MobMap. Would it be possible to integrate this same questionmark also in the quest giver dialog frame before accepting the quest? It would be great to know the questdetails like questlevel and quest destination before accepting the quest.

Thank you very much and keep up your good work!
