MobMap v2.0 is out!

So there it is - version 2.0 of MobMap. This release is on one hand a maintenance release: the MobMap database format has been changed slightly to solve a limitation that it was suffering from lately, and there are several new filters in place which sort out some serious crap from the database, which in turn results in a slightly smaller memory footprint (or, in some cases, a much smaller one - for example the fishing database, which is now 60% smaller). And I've fine-tuned those quicksearch buttons a little.

On the other hand - and this is what justifies the jump in the version number - MobMap has gained a quest comment system based on user-created input. In the essence this works just like you know it from the big WoW database sites: you can write a comment about any quest that's in the MobMap quest database - of course in-game. These comments are then being uploaded together with the other data you've been collecting. But now there's a major difference: as every comment enlarges the MobMap comment database memory footprint (of course the comments are stored in a compressed way, but nevertheless they tend to add up...), I don't just blindly put every comment into the database. Instead, every comment that's being uploaded will be reviewed, and only those comments that give some new information for a quest and have been written in a reasonably readable way are included.

You can of course write the comments completely anonymously, but you can also identify yourself (that is: the name of your in-game character and realm) as the author of a comment - it's your choice.

This system will hopefully help in making MobMap even more useful for solving quests - it is primarily intended to allow MobMap to be helpful even for quests which have goals like "Find some position". The quest comment system does automatically convert NPC names and coordinates into clickable links in-game for maximum ease of use.

Okay, so now it's your turn - I'm waiting for the first comments ;-) If there are any problems, errors or whatever with this new version (or the new version of the MobMapUpdater program, which has been updated as well), please leave me a comment here in the blog. Make sure to grab a new database version when you're updating though, because the format change renders all old databases useless.

--------------------------------------------
Patch notes of v2.00:
- added: MobMap does now support user-created quest comments! You can write comments as well as read comments written by other players. This functionality can be disabled in the options if you don't want to use it.
- changed: The database format has been changed to incorporate the quest comments as well as extend a limitation in the old format. YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR DATABASE COPY WHEN UPDATING MOBMAP!
- changed: The functionality of the quicksearch buttons next to quest titles has been improved. These buttons should now find the correct quest even if multiple quests have the same title.
- added: There are now quicksearch buttons at questgivers. They can of course be disabled optionally, like the other quicksearch buttons.

    Hello,
    first of all I want to thank an author for making this nice addon! It's really great addon to use in the game ^^
    But it's very sad that you don't have a forum to discuss or put there some issues. So, I don't know where to find solution for my problem.
    I can't upload or download data from MobMap updater. In case with updating my database there is always an error that "The MobMap server did not respond. Please check your internet connectivity or try again later." I'm getting it for about 1 mount now -(
    In case when I want to upload my collection , every time there is an error about "corrupted data" and some other things about delete it. OK. I did delete it, but the next time I want to upload , I'm getting again the same error.
    I don't know, why do I have it. And I have to upload/download data manually.

    Is there anyone have same problems with MobMap as me?

  2. Slarti says:

    Have you been able to update the MobMapUpdater itself via its self-update feature?

    Maybe you have some kind of firewall or something else that is limiting the internet access of the MobMapUpdater.

  3. Olena says:

    Thank you for quick response. It's strange - I did update version from MobMap updater, but couldn't get new database.
    And you were right - I have a new firewall and that was my problem ^^ . Now everything is OK.

    And still you have the problem with Cartographer compability in it I emailed you about some time ago. In order to see position marks I have to change MobMap_DisplayPositionData() and remove the Cartographer specific Frame setting and only leave parentframe=WorldMapPositioningGuide in place.

    I haven't check whether this still holds true for Cart3, but for the current Cartographer it does.

    I can live with it and I know to handle it, but I would appreciate if you could check and fix it.

    Kind regards,
    SunTsu

  5. Slarti says:

    Yes, that is still in there because I unfortunately have never been able to recreate the problem here. MobMap and Cartographer work fine together as they are - at least on several machines I got here for testing.

    I applied your fix once just to try if it does matter, and once I applied it I could not see the dots anymore. So it seems to be just the other way round here: without the "fix", everything works, but when it gets applied it breaks things.

    Strange issue...

  6. Dan says:

    Anyone know how i download it i cant find the download button

    plzzz

  8. Msconfig says:

    Ok so this all are new and wonderfull things - and Mobmap is one of my top 3 addons which means aloth coz I got many of them.
    BUT... You still haven't fixed a very small yet annoying issue.
    Mobmap can do without this fix, I admit; and this addon totally rocks and made my gaming experience SO much more fun... and yet this should be fixed.

    The issue:
    ```````````
    When you go to the "Recipes" main tab, and you choose whatever profession... It shows the 0-99 skill levels needed to learn that recipe just fine - but the 100+ are not fully shown. And that IS a problem. For example if you want to know the exact level of skill needed to learn how to create Runecloth Bandages... You can't. All you see is "2..." instead of "250" (or whatever that level actually is /smile).
    Any chance this can be fixed by the next update please? :)
    P.S.
    You - as the author \& maintainer of this addon - ROCK! Right on!
    I get this error when trying to complete a quest. This disables the complete quest button and I have to not load Mobmap to be able to turn in a quest.
    Message: ..\AddOns\MobMap\MobMap.lua line 2696:
  10. Slarti says:
    Can you tell me if this happens with any quest or if it just happened with a specific one? If the latter applies, can you remember the name of the quest?
  11. Bappernz says:
    I get the same error. It happens whenever i try to complete any quest on any character. It seems to be triggered whenever i talk to a npc quest giver and stops the "Complete Quest" button from working. Everything appears normal but clicking the button has no effect.
  12. Clinic says:
    Happens on any character, any quest, any server.
  13. Slarti says:
    This is a very strange problem. I do suspect it's due to some interference with another addon or something, as I am unable to recreate it right now.
    Nevertheless, I think I can include a patch that'll catch the underlying error that's currently surfacing in an error message and stopping the button from working. That should fix all the problems you have right now (though I would really like to know what's causing this in the first place...).
    Expect a version 2.01 very soon.
  14. Clinic says:
    I do have a ton of addons. Do you want me to post them here or send you an email?
  15. Slarti says:
    You can just post it right here, or send it via mail to slartie@gmx.net
  16. Clinic says:
    I found the issue. Gazmik Fizzwidget's Levelator and MobMap are not working nicely together since the last patch. They were working fine pre-2.4.2. No worky now. I'm turning off Levelator since it's not nearly as useful as MobMap.
  17. Slarti says:
    Ah, thats great (okay, it's not great that they don't like each other, but it's great news that you found the culprit).
    I'll investigate this and try to implement a workaround. And if it's the fault of the Levelator, I'll contact Mr. Fizzwidget.
  18. Hypower says:
    I have the same problem since 2.0 cannot complete quests. when you click complete quests for any quest giver it gives the Message: ..\AddOns\MobMap\MobMap.lua line 2696:
    bad argument #1 to 'find' (string expected, got nil)
    this is killing because i am lvling a new toon
  19. Zofran says:
    I noticed another strange thing since 2.0: the marks on the minimap are a bit off and close in as you move towards your destination. Say you are several meters away from an npc and want mobmap to show his location on the minimap, the mark isn't on the npc but somewhere between you and him. Now if you get closer to him, the mark also moves towards the npc until you get to him and the mark reaches its final location on the npc.
  20. lkcroff says:
    Ive updated MobMap and the database and when i log in i get a message that the database is out of date. I have completely removed the addon and database and re downloaded and installed it. I use WowMatrix to manage my addons but even bypassing that it wont load. It doesnt indicate out of date or that anything is wrong in eather the mobmap updater, wowmatrix, or the in game add-on menu. my freind has a near identical computer to mine an XPS 420 but he is running vista ultimate and has no problems i am running vista home premium. Any advice would be greatly appreciated this is the top addon for WOW and i would rater have this than any of the others. Thank you.
  21. PJ says:
    A request, the quest window, could you make it wider instead of higher? Its a bit too high as it is, and i have to scale the frame larger to be able to read it as it is.
    Perhaps the rewards could be in a side window?
